Writers! Don’t Go Back to Normal

by Katy Kauffman @KatyKauffman28

After a conference, we try to go back to normal. My advice? Don’t. Once you have experienced BRMCWC for yourself, there’s no going back. Your “normal” has been altered forever.

Say good-bye to the old way of looking at yourself. You’re a writer now. Most likely, the call to write was confirmed for you at the conference. Am I write, I mean, right? Or if you’ve known for a while you are supposed to write, your energy and enthusiasm for it have been refreshed. Mine have.

Say good-bye to your old routine. Now you need more time to write. Oh, and don’t forget blogging, platform-building, and “friending” on Facebook all those writers you met—the essentials of the writing life. With careful planning and a steadfast commitment, each part of the writer’s life becomes a regular part of the routine. It can happen.

Say good-bye to procrastination. It may come back to bother you again, but now you are armed with a myriad of reasons to sit down and write—people need hope, you have a story to tell, you know where to start now, you’ve gained new ideas, and you don’t write alone. You have God Almighty guiding you on this journey, and you have new writer friends cheering you on. You can cheer them on as well.

Say good-bye to gloomy mornings and restless nights. Whether the sun is shining or not, you have ready-made joy available. You have the privilege of touching hearts with the written word, and that blog that you may dread writing on week after week is an instant way to reach them. No more restless nights. If an idea pops into your head at 2 am, write it down. You are a writer-warrior now. If God gives you an idea, run with it, and then settle back into bed and dream of its publication.

So, writer friend, don’t go back to “normal.” Redefine normal to be all that God wants to do in you and through you. With God, “impossible” can become a daily occurrence, and private miracles are born regularly. Working with God to craft melodies of life-altering words and sentences is the privilege and adventure you’ve been given. Are you ready for your new normal? It’s time to sing.

Are you ready for your new normal? It’s time to sing.

    • Exactly! Our “normal” has changed, and I can’t not write either. That’s about the only double negative I understand. Thank you for your comment and reading the post, Connie!
