Submission Guidelines

We’re so glad you’re wanting to be critiqued! You will be truly blessed by our faculty. Each faculty has stated the number of critiques they are willing to do and the cutoff date for receiving them. The total means the total number of critiques a faculty member will accept across the categories, not the total of each type. Please pay close attention to the deadlines. Some of the faculty have listed the latest they are willing to receive critiques.

To submit your material for critique, please follow the guidelines below:

  1. Properly format your submission.With the exception of poetry, children’s picture books, and scripts, submissions should be double-spaced, presented in a 12-pt. serif font (like Times New Roman or similar) with one-inch margins all around. Scripts and plays should be submitted in standard film or A/V format.
  2. Please limit size of submissions as listed below. Longer submissions will not be read. (See categories for specifics.)
  3. Email the faculty member and include BRMCWC 2026 Critique Submission in the RE: line. Be sure to attach your submission in a .doc file format.
  4. Critiques cost $35. The faculty member will provide you with their mailing address or their finance app information (such as PayPal). Your payment will go directly to the faculty member prior to the conference. If the faculty member has not received payment by the date of the conference—unless other arrangements have been made—they are not required to meet with you.

Note: Faculty names will continue to be added and subtracted as needed.

Once a faculty member has received as many critiques as they offered to take, we’ll note next to their name that they are no longer taking critiques.

The number of critiques an individual faculty member will take is listed below their names. This isn’t how many you should submit to them. This is how many overall they are willing to receive from conferees altogether.

Once a faculty member has received as many critiques as they offered to take, we’ll note next to their name that they are no longer taking critiques.

  • Articles (Print and Online)

    Nonfiction, including how to, or information in nature. This is NOT the category for essays such as may be found in popular compilation books. Word count for this category is 700 – 2000 words.

  • Essays

    True events or experiences. (These are similar to Chicken Soup for the Soul pieces.) Word count for this category is no more than 1000 words.

  • Devotions

    Limit of 3, no longer than two pages each, double-spaced. (the $35 entry fee covers up to 3 devotions)

  • Bible Studies (Book Length)

    Submit a two-to-three- page outline and first 10 pages, double-spaced.

  • Nonfiction Books

    True life stories, inspirational guidelines, motivational, encouragement, etc. Submit a two- to three-page outline and the first 10 pages, which may include the introduction. Double space all pages.

  • YA (Young Adult) Nonfiction

    (Same faculty as NONFICTION above)

  • Short Stories

    Approximately 1000-3000 words.

  • Novellas

    Fiction ranging from 20,000 to 30,000 words. Submit a one-page, single-spaced synopsis and first pages, not to exceed 10 double-spaced pages (if prologue is submitted, it is part of the 10 pages).

  • Novels

    Fiction ranging from 45,000 to 100,000 words. Submit a one-page, single-spaced synopsis and first pages, not to exceed 10 pages (if prologue submitted, it IS a part of the 10 pages). Double space all pages. Please state the genre on the coversheet. Genres include: Contemporary Women’s, Romance, (Romantic/Medical/etc.) Suspense, Historical (Romance), Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Speculative, and so on.

  • YA (Young Adult) Novels

    (See NOVELS above)

  • Middle Grade Novels

    Submit a one-page, single-spaced synopsis and first 10 pages.

  • Children's Chapter Book

    Submit short summary (no more than one page, single-spaced) and first 10 pages.

  • Children's Picture Book

    Submit entire work. Also includes Board Books.

  • Poetry

    Three poems or three pages equals one entry.

  • Blogs

    Submit your blog address and your blog’s focus.

  • Fiction Book Proposal

    Submit the entire proposal. Critiquer will look at the proposal sections, but will NOT critique the sample chapters.

  • Nonfiction Book Proposal

    Submit the entire proposal. Critiquer will look at the proposal sections, but will NOT critique the sample chapters.

  • Flash Fiction

    Fiction (a complete story) of no more than 1000 words.

  • Film

    Scripts and plays should be submitted in standard film or A/V format

  • Podcast

    Podcast Trailers and Episodes and Speaker Trailers and Reels

  • Songwriting

    Songwriting at all levels (lyrics, music with lyrics, production quality, etc.)

  • Gift Books

    True life stories, inspirational guidelines, motivational, encouragement, etc. Submit a two- to three-page outline and the first 10 pages, which may include the introduction. Double space all pages.

  • Web/Marketing

    Branding, Websites, business cards

  • Children Short Stories/Poetry

    Short Stories for children 3-12 year olds, 1000-3000 words
    Poetry for children, three poems or three pages equals one entry
