Where Authors Can Take Bookmarks

By DiAnn Mills @DiAnnMills

A writer has a new release, and she is excited to promote the book. One of the means of creating awareness to readers is

The publisher has provided many bookmarks or the writer has designed them.
The writer is ready to distribute them to readers. But after delivering the bookmarks to local bookstores and snapping photos with managers, staff, and owners, what’s next?

The following is a list of places where readers can find your bookmarks, be hooked into your story, and make a decision to purchase your book. The first three items are common to writers. The places listed after #3 came from a brainstorming session with my sister-in-law, who is a reader. Imagine that!

  1. Bookstores in the writer’s area—Christian and the general market stores.
  2. Libraries, where readers enjoy the world of books.
  3. Street team members who are valued friends and help to spread the word in their community.
  4. Hair salons
My stylist always receives a book. He not only reads it but displays it for all his clients.
  5. Nail salons
  6. Boutiques, including clothing and accessories
  7. Coffee houses
  8. Restaurants
  9. Cafeterias at various work environments
  10. Break rooms in work environments
  11. Doctor’s offices
  12. Dentist’s offices

Seek permission before leaving bookmarks in any area. This is also an opportunity to take photos for Facebook. Be sure to tag the people in the pic.

Where do you take your bookmarks for author promotion?
