5 Keys for Writers to Unlock Social Media

@DiAnnMills

Many writers believe social media has too much of a learning curve.

They struggle between fear and where to look for instruction. The thought of developing content, discovering readers, and diving into analytics drives them to ignore the disastrous D’s of unlocking social media.

Publishers urge writers to get involved with the platforms where their readers hang out. Then the response is too often, “Just let me write my books. I didn’t sign up for social media platforms, branding, and marketing.”

I admit navigation and research look like hours upon hours of work. Motivation to appease publishers through social media seems foreign to those who don’t want to learn it.

What if I gave you 5 keys to unlock your social media dilemma?

  1. Understand readers/audience come first. The process isn’t about us.
  2. Seek out the best social media instructor(s) who are highly respected in the industry.
  3. Be true to your brand, voice, genre, and writing.
  4. Practice optimism in posts and in responses.
  5. Approach social media and writing with a healthy balance. Writing should remain our priority and take the most time. After all, we’re are writers foremost.

These five simple keys will make learning and applying social media to fit into the busiest writer’s schedule. What is your key to unlock the power of social media?
