New Life

By DiAnn Mills @diannmills

Welcome to week five of Faith Friday in our Adventure with God. The letter N stands for New Life. We hear the phrase from the pulpit, in devotions, commentaries, and books designed to enrich our spiritual lives. But do we fully understand what it means?

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” 2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV

Man is born without the knowledge of God being all we need. When God created man, He put within us a need for relationship, security, and significance. God intended for those innate needs to be met in Him. Unfortunately, we mess up and try other ways of fulfilling this need, often eliminating God from the picture.

When writers explore the flaws and weaknesses of characters, they look at how the characters are meeting the need for relationship, security, and significance in ways that don’t glorify God.

Our God chose grace and truth to draw us back to Him by sending His Son to pay the penalty for our rebellion. Jesus Christ has made us a new creation when we acknowledge and accept His sacrificial death on the cross for our sins. We ask forgiveness and commit our lives to Him.

Our souls are knitted to Him in a relationship that knows no barriers of time or space. He’s even given us a resource—a love letter—His Word and the Holy Spirit as our guiding counselor. The Bible contains 66 books filled with praise, life lessons, history, instruction, His life and purpose on earth, and stories about men and women who lived their faith as a model for us.

Shake off the cares of this world with an attitude of hope. Every moment is an opportunity to be more like Jesus Christ. We can have it all with a rich inheritance, if we grasp New Life.

Prayer – Heavenly Father, thank You for my new life with You. Forever I am Yours. Forever I will praise Your name. Forever I will tell others of Your power and greatness. Amen

Reflection – Today’s world is a scary place. Every day we are faced with tragedies that break our hearts. But in You, we have unexplainable joy. You are our rock and our salvation. When the world tries to drag us down because of our hope in You, we will hold fast. New Life is more than a publishing contract or an award. New Life begins when we turn our lives over to You and it lasts forever.

    Great thoughts today!

I appreciate encouragement to cultivate my faith. So much of what I read is about how to cultivate writing and marketing skill. If writing is worship, I need a testimony of faith first! Blessings.
